Moberly Man Faces Child Abuse Charge
A 23-year-old Moberly man, Zachary Mohr, was arrested Sunday morning following a call to the child abuse hotline. A formal charge of abuse or neglect of a child has been filed against Mohr. Randolph County Children’s Division learned a 10-month-old baby had been flown from Moberly Regional Medical Center to St. Louis Children’s Hospital for treatment, and was in critical condition after trauma to the brain along with injuries to the face and body. An investigation revealed the child was left in the care of Mohr Saturday night, and was taken to the hospital after the mother noticed abnormal behavior and injury when the child was returned to her.
According to the Moberly Police, the suspect admitted to officers he became angry with the child when she continually cried, striking her numerous times with items that included a cell phone and a metal tool box.
Mohr is being held in the Randolph County Jail. The charge he faces is a Class B felony. Bond for Mohr has been set at 150 thousand dollars cash only.
