Moberly Man Arrested for Setting Fires

A Moberly man is in custody following multiple reports of fires being set around Moberly Monday night. Moberly Police say they arrested 43-year-old Scott Bishop at approximately 9:23 Tuesday night in the 600 block of Porter Street. Officers initially located Bishop Monday in the 15-hundred block of Park Drive. He fled into a nearby home. At that time, they did not have enough evidence to arrest him, but they have now developed probable cause through video evidence. Around 9:50 that night, the fire department received reports of fires downtown. After extinguishing those, several more fires were reported in the residential neighborhood west of downtown, including the 700 block of West Coates, 1000 block of West Reed and two natural cover fires in Rothwell Park. The fires included commercial dumpsters, residential trash cans, wood pallets and brush. Bishop’s arrest warrant included nine counts of knowingly burning or exploding.
