Moberly Hosts Boonville in Spartans’ Second Doubleheader of the Week

A busy week of basketball continues for the Moberly girls and boys basketball teams as they host Boonville tonight for a varsity doubleheader. The Moberly girls’ team will be looking to continue their strong early form after opening the week with a 48-29 win over Hannibal. Moberly girls coach Tony Vestal says they’re excited for the challenge of facing the defending Class 4 State Champions.

Boonville has won 13 straight games in their series with Moberly. The Lady Pirates come in with a record of 6-1 which includes winning the Centralia Tournament title last week. Boonville girls coach Jaryt Hunziker discusses the defensive keys against Moberly.

In the boys’ game, Moberly will be looking to bounce back after a rough 55-32 defeat to Hannibal Tuesday night. The Spartans come into play with a 1-3 record. Moberly boys coach Cord Hagedorn says cutting down on turnovers will be pivotal against the Pirates.

Boonville will also be looking to avenge a tough Tuesday night loss after they were throttled 75-42 by Fulton. The Pirates are coached by former Moberly head coach Mark Anderson, who is in his third year at Boonville. Hagedorn says Anderson’s ties to Moberly make this a matchup of similar teams.

The Pirates come into tonight’s contest with a record of 3-4. Pregame coverage of the doubleheader is scheduled to begin at 6:15 on KRES 104.7 and centralmoinfo.com. Colin Schowe will have the play-by-play.
