Moberly Hosts Boonville in District Title Game

The Moberly Spartans will host the Boonville Pirates in the Class 3 District 5 Championship game at Dr. Larry K. Noel Spartan Stadium. The top-seeded Spartans edged Southern Boone 21-20 last week to reach their second district title game in three years. Moberly coach Cody McDowell says this year’s team has done a good job putting last season’s 2-8 record in the rearview mirror.

Moberly is seeking their first district title since 2017. The Spartan defense will have to deal with dual-threat quarterback Colby Caton who has accounted for 1,945 yards passing and 1,048 yards rushing. McDowell says he has the attention of his defensive unit.

Caton is a three-year starter at the QB position, and is the all-time leader in passing yards, completions and touchdowns at Booneville. Coach Greg Hough says the Pirate’s key to success is no secret.

The third-seeded Pirates come into this contest following a 27-13 victory over Mexico in the district semifinal game. Hough says his team has overcome adversities all season leading up to this title game.

This will be the first time that these schools have met since the 2017 season. You can hear the game on Superstation KRES and centralmoinfo.com with coverage beginning at 6:35. Colin Schowe and Steven Findley Jr will have the call.
