Moberly Girls Secure Solid Win at Battle

The Moberly Lady Spartans moved to 2-0 with a 59-49 victory at Battle Tuesday night. Battle led 16-9 at the end of the first quarter after closing it on a 9-1 run, then maintained the lead throughout the second to hold a 26-20 advantage at the break. Grace Billington was held scoreless in the first half but came alive in the third quarter.

Austin Ward with the call on KWIX and Billington had 10 points in the back-and-forth third frame.

Billington had another go-ahead three early in the fourth and Moberly never trailed again. Haley Baker helped keep the lead at a distance.

Baker finished with 11 points, all in that final quarter. Billington ended with 17. Coach Tony Vestal…

Moberly got a game-high 21 points from Asa Fanning.

Battle was led by Tayla Robinson’s 14 points. Vestal knew his team was eager to play.

Moberly will play Van-Far Monday in the first round of the Centralia Tournament.
