Moberly Girls, Mexico Boys Win Blowouts

The Moberly girls and Mexico boys picked up lopsided wins in Mexico Friday night.

After going back-and-forth in the early stages of the first, the Lady Spartans closed the quarter on a 14-0 run en route to a 61-29 victory. Grace Billington had the hot hand.

Austin Ward with the call on Glory 97.3 and centralmoinfo.com. Billington finished with 15 points. Moberly outscored the Lady Bulldogs 15-6 in the second quarter. Coach Tony Vestal said it was one of the best halves his team has had.

Asa Fanning had a game-high 17 points. Kennedy Messer put in 12. Mexico’s Messiah Simpson scored a team-high nine. Coach Ed Costley said his team was aggressive in the early stages.

The Lady Bulldogs fall to 7-13 while Moberly moves to 13-7.

The Mexico boys led 20-8 after one quarter on their way to an 83-53 win. The 13-7 Bulldogs had 10 players land in the scorebook with half of them notching double digits. DJ Long wrapped up with a game-high 19 points, Jordan Shelton chipped in 13, Jaydon Eldridge ended with 12 and both Anthony Shivers and PJ Perkins had 10. Coach Darren Pappas thought the quick start was crucial.

Mason Bivins notched 15 points for Moberly. Coach Brett Boyer was disappointed.

The Spartans drop to 3-16.
