Moberly Girls and Southern Boone Boys Post Dominant Wins

Both the Moberly girls and Southern Boone boys led wire-to-wire for victories Thursday night at Southern Boone High School.

The Moberly Lady Spartans opened the night with an 8-0 run on their way to a 68-46 win over Southern Boone. Asa Fanning made a significant contribution to the opening run.

Colin Schowe with the call on KWIX and centralmoinfo.com. A Haley Baker basket completed the early run. The Lady Eagles cut the deficit back to four at the end of the first quarter. However, the Lady Spartans went on a 12-0 run in the second quarter and led 42-26 at halftime. Fanning led the Lady Spartans with 23 points while Baker added 17 and Grace Billington scored 15. Coach Tony Vestal said he liked the way his team approached the game.

Moberly runs its winning streak to five and improves to 16-2 on the season. Chloe Bukowsky scored eleven of her team-high 18 points in the first quarter for Southern Boone. Vestal discussed the approach in dealing with Bukowsky.

Gracie Britton added 14 points for the 6-11 Lady Eagles.

The Southern Boone boys followed the lead of the Lady Spartans by opening with an 8-0 run and parlayed that into a 78-60 victory against Moberly. The Eagles dominated the first half and led 44-19 at halftime. They held a lead as large as 29 early in the third quarter before the Spartans went on a 14-2 run. Jace Wren quelled the rally on an inbounds play at the end of the quarter

Wren hit five three-pointers on his way to a 30-point night for the Eagles. Chase Morris added 17 points and Brayden Beckmann chipped in with ten for the 14-2 Eagles. Moberly coach Brett Boyer said the effort wasn’t there in the first half.

Ty Rucker led the 8-10 Spartans with 18 points.
