Moberly Basketball Opens Seasons Hosting Monroe City

Both Moberly basketball teams open their season Tuesday when they host Monroe City. Moberly coach Tony Vestal says the Lady Spartans have promising depth.

Vestal expects Haley Baker to fill in well at point guard for graduated four-year starter Kennedy Messer. Monroe City and coach Adam Rung is coming off an 11-17 season.

Last season’s returners include four starters. The Moberly and Monroe girls have met early in the season each year since 2019 with the Lady Spartans winning three of four.

The Moberly boys went 3-23 last season in the first year under head coach Brett Boyer, who says handling adversity is a emphasis this season.

Monroe City comes in off its first losing season in a decade. Coach Brock Edris says a lot of young players got valuable minutes.

You can hear Monroe City at Moberly on KTCM with pregame starting around 6:15. Austin Ward will have the call.
