Missouri Set to Make Budget Cuts Amid COVID-19 Pandemic

Missouri Governor Mike Parson focused on how the state budget will be impacted by the coronavirus pandemic during his daily press briefing. Parson had a bleak take where the budget is trending during this pandemic.
The state is estimating a $500 million shortfall and will restrict at least $180 million in spending. Parson outlines which departments will see cuts.
State Budget director Dan Haug says the state needed a proactive approach in restricting $180 million from the budget.
Haug was asked how long the state’s budget would be impacted by COVID-19.
As of Wednesday afternoon, Missouri has 1,581 coronavirus cases and tested 17,427 individuals which is about a 9.1% positive rate. The state has 18 total deaths.
