Missouri Saw One of the Wettest Years on Record

Missourians are still wringing out the rain water from 2019. According to the National Weather Service in Pleasant Hill, the Kansas City area had its fourth wettest year on record with just over 53 inches of precipitation. Meteorologist for the National Weather Service in Pleasant Hill, Jonathan Kurtz, says the state of Missouri has simply been stuck in a wet pattern.
Typically, wetter years are associated with El Nino and La Nina events in the Pacific Ocean. However, Kurtz says 2019 was an exception.
While 2020 will be another neutral year, early indications from the National Weather Service show a possibility for more significant rainfall to start the new decade.
