Missouri Reports Seventh Positive HPAI Case

A commercial turkey farm in Southwest Missouri’s Jasper County is the latest location in the state to experience a positive case of highly pathogenic avian influenza.  The Missouri Department of Agriculture and USDA’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service report that an infection was detected among the 35,000 meat birds last Thursday.  The flock has since been depopulated, bringing total losses thus far in Missouri to 393-thousand.  According to APHIS, 22.9 million birds have been subject to depopulation from 118 commercial and backyard flocks since the first positive case was detected almost two months ago.  Over half the impacted birds were in Iowa, including five million at an egg-laying operation in the northwestern part of that state.
