The Missouri House of Representatives recently passed House Bill 527, which deals with eminent domain being used by private companies to acquire land. The root of the bill is the proposed Grain Belt Express wind energy project which would cut through farm land in northern Missouri. Representative Cheri Toalson Reisch of Hallsville says she was a supporter of passing the bill.

The bill now moves onto the Senate for further consideration. Toalson Reisch says it seems strange that eminent domain has become a rural vs urban issue.

The eminent domain bill passed the House by a vote of 123-33 and is expected to pass through the Senate as well.
