Missouri Extension Specialists Helping in the Bahamas

Residents of the Bahamas continue to recover from 2019’s Hurricane Dorian, which wiped out both the agriculture and tourism industries even before the pandemic. Jennifer Schutter, Field Specialist in Horticulture at the Adair County Extension Office, went there last month on a trip sponsored by Convoy of Hope. Since this April, two different Missouri extension horticulture, agronomy, and ag business specialists have been visiting the country each month to help farmers and gardens to be more productive.

Schutter taught classes to small farmers and people with large gardens to prepare them to sell their produce.

Much of the advice applied equally to growers in Missouri and the Bahamas.

The Extension trips will continue through February.
