Missouri Governor Mike Parson is continuing preparations to re-open most of Missouri May 4th; however, a protest at the state capitol is expected to take place Tuesday. Parson reacts to the scheduled protest despite statewide stay at home orders still in place.

The state has 5,807 confirmed cases of coronavirus out of 55,873 tests and has reported 177 deaths. Parson says even though number of positive tests are still increasing, there’s a lot of optimism in the direction the state is heading.

Missouri HealthNet Director Todd Richardson reported some good news with the rate of new cases continuing to decrease.

Missouri has nearly 700 ICU beds available. Part of the re-opening Missouri plans includes expanding testing. Parson still hopes to double the amount of testing in the state in the coming weeks.

According to a Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation model, which is one of the more tracked models, Missouri may have past its projected peak in daily deaths and daily resources needed to address the pandemic on April 14 and 15th.
