Milan Superintendent Talks Grand River Conference Split

Earlier this month Grand River Conference superintendents voted 12-4 to split the conference into two separate entities. The split went along the current divisional lines with current Grand River East members Milan and Putnam County, along with future members Brookfield and Marceline being part of the same league. Milan Superintendent Dr. Ben Yocom explains one of the key reasons for the split.

Yocom adds those geographical issues gradually created further problems within the conference.

The Grand River Conference began operation in 1930. Milan is one of the newer members having joined in 2015, along with Putnam County. Yocom reflects on the history of the league.

Superintendents with the current Grand River East teams will meet in Trenton on March 30th to discuss plans for the new league. Marceline and Brookfield will join in the 2024-25 school year.
