At last week’s meeting, the Milan School Board had intended to adopt a mask expectation within the Milan School Districts’ buildings. This expectation among students and staff has been adopted in several school districts throughout Missouri. However, Milan Superintendent Dr. Ben Yocom says a change in the wording of the expectation led to a change of direction from the school board.

The change came from both the Missouri Department of Elementary and Second Education and the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services.

In the wake of the change Yocom sought for an explaination from both departments. He says he understands the reasoning for the change.

As a result of the change the Milan School District is not adopting a mask requirement. However, they still strongly recommend masks or face coverings to be worn by students and staff.
