Middle Grove’s Thomas Honored With MCA’s Pioneer Award
Rising land prices in his native Maryland prompted an Air Force veteran to start calling Middle Grove, Missouri home. Over 50 years later, Richard Thomas has the Missouri Cattlemen’s Association’s lifetime achievement award in his hands, recognizing his dedication to raising cattle and promoting the beef industry. Thomas reflected on his childhood along the Chesapeake Bay.
Thomas received a commission in the Air Force after graduating from the University of Maryland with a mechanical engineering degree. After his service, Thomas married his wife Jackie and relocated to Central Missouri, where the couple raised two children in addition to Shorthorn cattle. Thomas would become involved in the Missouri Cattlemen’s Association, helping establish two local associations. He explains the importance of becoming involved with state and local cattle groups.
Richard Thomas of Middle Grove was recognized at the Missouri Cattlemen’s Association’s annual meeting Jan. 20th in Osage Beach.
