Mexico Scholars Third In Class Five; Rock Bridge Finish Fourth

Mexico claimed a pair of victories over longtime scholar bowl powers Savannah to place third at the MSHSAA Class Five state tournament Saturday in Columbia.  After the two dropped matches against champions Ladue and runners-up Sullivan, Mexico and Savannah faced each other to close out round-robin play already knowing that they would face each other for third.  Sophomore Camden Williams gave Savannah a preview of what to expect, claiming 18 of the 22 tossups in Mexico’s 590-90 drubbing of the seven-time state champions.

The third-place match was closer, but still firmly controlled by Mexico as they won 460-170.  Coach Dale Schenewerk…

Schenewerk says the Bulldogs are already looking at where the team can improve next season.

Ladue defeated Sullivan 480-290 in the Class Five championship match, claiming their tenth state title in program history.  In Class Six, Columbia Rock Bridge went 0-4 on the day, falling to Springfield Kickapoo in the third-place contest 430-270.  Parkway West got past Saint Joseph Central 410-280 to win their first state title, avenging last year’s championship loss.  Fair Grove won their second state title in three years, defeating Houston 470-250 for the Class Four crown.
