Mexico Boys Track and Field 1974-1979 Era To Be Enshrined in November

The Mexico Boys Track and Field team from 1974 to 1979 will be enshrined into the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame this year. This team won three consecutive state titles in Class 3 from 1975, 1976 and 1977. The ’74 and ’78 seasons featured third place finishes for Mexico and ’79 was a runner-up finish.

Ron Whittaker was the head coach for the program during this era. Whittaker’s journey and connection to Mexico track and field began in his high school days.

Whittaker says track and field success at Mexico was within grasp before the Hall of Fame period.

Whittaker says his teams had a desire to be great.

That era is responsible for three of the school’s five total class 3A championships.
