Messer Leads Lady Spartans in Final Home Game, Mexico Boys Roll

Moberly’s Kennedy Messer scored a game-high 16 points in her final home game and the Mexico boys rolled to a win in a doubleheader split Friday.

The Lady Spartans scored the first 19 points in a 60-19 win. The four-year starter Messer scored in each quarter.

Along with Messer, Asa Fanning had 11 and Haley Baker 10. Vestal was pleased with the execution.

Moberly is 17-7. The Lady Bulldogs fall to 9-16 and were led by Claire Hudson’s seven points.

The Mexico boys used a late 13-1 run to end the first half before coasting to an 85-47 victory.

The Bulldogs got a game-high 22 points from PJ Perkins for coach Darren Pappas.

DJ Long put in 17 points, Jordan Shelton contributed 13 and Jaydon Eldridge 10. Mason Bivins paced the Spartans with 12. Coach Brett Boyer said he saw some good things from his team that was missing two starters.

Moberly drops to 3-20 while Mexico moves to 16-9.
