The undefeated 2011 Marion County Lady Mustangs were voted as the KRES All-Decade team in the sport of girls basketball. After two previous trips to the Show-Me Showdown, coach Mike Johnson said his group went to the next level in 2011….

That Lady Mustangs team almost came up short of a state championship for a third straight year. Johnson said his biggest on-court memory in 2011 came in the state semifinal game…

It was the first loss of the season for Montrose and Morgan Eye went on to play at Mizzou. Johnson takes us through the late game moments that led to Randi Lee Plunkett’s sprint to Marion County fame….

In 2010, Marion County was the top ranked team in class 1 all season, but Jefferson knocked off the Lady Mustangs in the semifinals. Coach Johnson said that loss fueled their championship run the next year….

Coach Mike Johnson and Marion County beat Exeter 62-38 to claim the school’s only state basketball title. It also avenged a loss to Exeter in the 2009 championship game.
