Marceline Travels to Clark County for Class 2 Quarterfinal

The Marceline Lady Tigers are eyeing their second trip to the Class 2 Softball Final Four in three years. To do so they will have to travel to Kahoka to take on the Clark County Lady Indians Wednesday evening. The Lady Tigers come into the contest with a record of 25-3-1 and are the third-ranked team in Class 2. Marceline head coach Todd Lowther says the familiarity of postseason softball helps in situations such as this one.

Marceline comes into the game on a 17-game winning streak. Offensively they’ve clubbed a school-record 32 home runs this season and are averaging 9.6 runs per game. Lowther says his team will need to do the simple things in order to come out victorious against Clark County.

The Lady Tigers defeated Clark County earlier in the year 9-2 in the Putnam County Tournament. However, Clark County’s ace pitcher Alexis Ellison didn’t pitch in that game due to an injury. The Lady Indians are coming off a 7-3 win over Highland to win their district as a four seed. Clark County head coach Shaun Parker says the Lady Indians are enjoying their first district title since 1998.

Clark County comes into the quarterfinal with a record of 12-14. Parker says his team is coming together at the right time.

The winner will move on to the Class 2 Semifinals in Springfield next Friday. Coverage of the game will begin at 5:15 pm on 99.9 The Captain and centralmoinfo.com. Colin Schowe will have the play-by-play.
