The Marceline School district is in its first day of a shutdown due to the Coronavirus pandemic. Superintendent Brian Sherrow says they had a special board meeting to address some final concerns.

The decision to close school comes after the Linn County Health Department advised area schools to follow the CDC’s guidelines to isolate people, and to have no more than a group of 10 together for the next 13 days. Sherrow says the district is also looking at alternative methods of instruction.

Sherrow also says they’re hoping to hear from the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education soon for additional guidance so there is some consistency between all the schools in how they address a potential return to the classroom.
