Marceline Meets South Shelby in District Semifinals on KRES

Lewis and Clark champion Marceline welcomes South Shelby for a district semifinal matchup on KRES. Mark Ross’ sixth-ranked Tigers are fresh off a bye.

8-1 Marceline claimed an outright league title when it defeated Harrisburg 30-16 two weeks ago. Ross scouts Clarence Cannon opponent South Shelby.

Ross referenced South Shelby junior quarterback Trey Countryman, who earned Hawkins Harrison Insurance End Zone Player of the Week honors after the last regular season game.

South Shelby is coming off a monumental comeback win against Scotland County. The Cardinals erased a 26-8 deficit with 5:30 left in the game to win 32-26 in overtime. South Shelby head coach Adam Gunterman cited his team’s resilience as the reason for the victory.

Countryman has thrown for 2,157 yards and 18 touchdowns against five interceptions. Gunterman says the poise of the Cardinals quarterback is what stands out the most to him.

Gunterman says the Cardinals need to establish the run early on offense and contain the rushing attack of Marceline on the other side of the ball.

Pregame coverage of South Shelby at Marceline begins at 6:30 on KRES and centralmoinfo.com. Eric Duick and Brandon Monty have the call.
