Marceline Meets Hayti in a State Semifinal Filled With Athleticism

11-1 Marceline football hosts undefeated Hayti in the state semifinals on KIRK Saturday. Marceline head coach Mark Ross says the Tigers are grateful for home field advantage after a 2019 semifinal loss at Lincoln.

Marceline outlasted Fayette 21-20 last week after a 36-30 district championship win versus Highland. Hayti topped Monroe City 26-22 in the quarterfinals. Ross notes the Indians are loaded with speed.

Ross reveals the keys to victory.

Ross referenced Tray’von Thomas, who fueled Hayti’s 22-point quarterfinal comeback with a game-winning touchdown toss with 1:13 left. Hayti erased a 22-0 halftime deficit in its last game. Head coach Dominique Robinson shared the message he gave to his team at halftime of the last game.

Hayti enters this contest 12-0. The Indians offense is averaging 55 points a contest while surrendering just 11 points a game defensively. Robinson shared his keys to offensive success Saturday.

Defensively, Robinson says understanding assignments and staying at home against the athletes of the Tigers offense will be crucial.
