Marceline Hosts Paris in Lewis and Clark Conference Opener

Marceline will host Paris in a varsity basketball doubleheader tonight to kickoff each school’s respective Lewis & Clark Conference slate. The Marceline Lady Tigers have won three straight after opening the season with a loss to New Franklin in the Glasgow Tournament. Marceline girls coach Jordan Beck says her team is getting use to their new Read and React offense.

They face a Paris Lady Coyotes team that features only one senior and has been held to 31 or fewer points in all four of their games. Senior Carlee Long is their leading scorer, averaging seven points a game. Paris girls coach Garrett Thomas says his team has to have a journey mentality.

On the boys’ side, Marceline is just beginning to get their full roster together. The Tigers played their first games last week after missing the Glasgow Tournament due to their football team’s run to the state title game. Marceline boys Michael Severa says they’re not taking the winless Coyotes lightly.

The Tigers come into the game with a 1-1 record. Paris is coming off their closest game of the year, a 68-61 loss to Mark Twain at the Monroe City Tournament. Despite the 0-4 start, Paris boys coach Jeremy Skinner says he like the improvements he’s seen from his team.

Coverage of the Marceline and Paris doubleheader will begin with pregame at 5:45 on KRES 104.7 and centralmoinfo.com. Colin Schowe will have the play-by-play.
