Marceline Girls, Brookfield Boys Secure Rivalry Wins

The Marceline Lady Tigers squeezed out a win while the Brookfield Bulldogs pulled away late to split a pair of games Thursday night.

The Lady Dogs came up short in game one of the night, falling to the Lady Tigers 38-33. Brookfield never led during the game, but had a chance to tie the game late in the fourth on a missed three-point attempt. Marceline’s Bailey Niemeier got ahead of the defense and sealed the win for the Lady Tigers with a transition layup. Coach Jared Best evaluated his team after the game.

Niemeier had a team-high 14 points in the win. Brookfield coach Tim Thomason shared his perspective.

Brookfield falls to 5-8. Marceline improves to 4-9.

Brookfield junior Hayden Dejong showcased his offensive skillset in the Bulldog’s 54-40 win over the Tigers.

Marceline kept to within striking distance early in the fourth, trimming the lead down to eight at one point. Coach Kirsten Ewigman pointed to some positives for the Tigers.

Senior Barrett Stearns led the Tigers with 14. Marceline moves to 0-13. Brookfield advances to 5-8.
