Marceline Football Roster has Makings of State Title Contender

Back-to-back district champion Marceline returns all 22 starters and a loaded senior class. Head coach Mark Ross enters his fourth season with the Tigers.

Several Tiger seniors played critical roles as sophomores on Marceline’s 2019 state semifinal squad. Ross will call both the offense and defense after former defensive coordinator Austin Bruner departed for Centralia.

Marceline allowed 15 points per game last year. After recent state playoff losses, Ross cited Marceline’s struggles on the line of scrimmage. Ross provides an update on the offensive and defensive lines.

The Tigers averaged 41 points and 393 yards per contest last season, but Marceline only managed 222 yards in a 13-7 state quarterfinal loss to Adrian. Ross notes Marceline must capitalize on its depth to achieve its 2021 goals.

Marceline eyes a seventh straight Lewis and Clark title. Running back/linebacker Hunter Nelson and lineman Nathan Cupp earned First Team All-Conference honors on both sides of the ball last year. Cupp and Wyatt Molloy claimed KRES All-Star selections. Marceline visits Scotland County Friday before a trip to Brookfield for the Bell Game week two on KRES.
