Marceline Falls to East Buchanan in State Championship

Marceline lost to East Buchanan 21-7 in the Class 1 state championship at Faurot Field Saturday. The Tigers trimmed the deficit to 21-7 late in the third quarter.

14-1 East Buchanan rushed for 233 yards and three touchdowns. Sophomore Trevor Klein produced 169 yards.

The Bulldogs limited KRES All-Star Hunter Nelson to 22 yards on 15 carries.

Quarterback Jacob Stallo completed 15 passes for 181 yards. Fellow senior Sam Gillman ended with seven catches. Mason Barnett paced the Tigers with nine tackles, and Gillman added an interception. Ross reflected on a senior class that won four league titles, three district championships, and appeared in two state semifinals, plus Saturday’s state championship.

Marceline finished 12-2.
