The Marceline City Council is in an ongoing discussion to potentially bring a proposed half-cent general sales tax increase to voters in the April 2022 election. Funds from the tax increase would go towards addressing public safety in the city. City Manager Richard Hoon says they’re still working to determine how the funds would be specifically used.

Hoon adds the tax would be beneficial to other elements of the city budget.

The Marceline City Council will likely determine whether to put the sales tax increase on the April ballot at its next meeting on December 21st.
