Man Arrested In Connection to Suspicious Death in Palmyra

A man wanted in connection to a suspicious death in Palmyra Friday morning has been arrested. The Menard County, Ill. Sheriff’s Department, U.S. Marshal Service and other agencies located Raymond Gum Jr. in Petersberg, Ill. shortly after 12:20pm Saturday. Gum was a person of interest in the death of a 34-year-old female, who resided in the 100 block of East Jefferson St. in Palmyra. Gum is being held in Menard County on one count of first degree murder, and one count of armed criminal action. Gum’s bond is $1 million cash only.
