Madison Schools Propose Tax Hike For Teacher Salaries

Discussion by lawmakers to again raise teacher salaries across the state has prompted the Madison School Board to put a tax levy increase on the April 2nd ballot. Superintendent Bryant Jones says the increase would be by a dollar-24 per 100 dollars in assessed valuation… from $3.75 to $4.99.

Jones says the district would have to look at significant cuts if the levy doesn’t pass.

Jones says higher salaries might not cause an immediate increase in the number of candidates for teacher openings, but will help in the long run. The last day to register to vote is March 6th.
