Macon’s first day of school is three weeks away. As we reported Tuesday, the Macon County Health Department is working with local school districts to ensure in-person learning takes place in a safe manner. Superintendent Scott Jarvis was asked what those discussions entail.

As of Tuesday, just over 33% of Macon County has initiated COVID-19 vaccination. With the Delta variant continuing to spread, Jarvis believes the district could have a small role in helping improve vaccination rates.

Jarvis notes the district plans to begin school as normal as possible and are encouraging masks, but not mandating them.
