Officers with the Macon Police Department are unionizing. Bill Stark, Director Local 42, Law Enforcement Division from St. Louis, outlines what has taken place.

They have received some communication on behalf of the city.

Once they get the voluntary recognition in writing, they will begin to put a contract proposal together.

Stark says a lot more of the smaller departments are taking this step.

Stark, who was a police officer for 32 years, says it normally takes a year or so to have a contract finalized.

We reached out for a comment from Macon city officials and were given the following statement, quote, “The City of Macon recognizes and supports the right of the Police Officers to unionize and are negotiating with them now to setup the terms. It is too early for the City to comment on what those terms will look like at this time.” Endquote.
