Macon Girls and Mexico Boys Earn Championship Appearances

The Macon girls and Mexico boys advanced to the Macon Tournament championship with victories Wednesday.

The Macon girls outlasted Centralia 46-32 in the first matchup. The Lady Panthers made a charge late, but Tigerette senior Lexi Miller responded.

Nic Thomas with the call on KRES and centralmoinfo.com. Centralia led 6-4 late in the first quarter, but Macon gained control with consecutive three-pointers from Miller and Brooklyn Anderson. Lady Panthers head coach Becca Schemmer said that stretch defined the game.

Macon head coach Richard Driscoll was pleased with the Tigerettes’ effort.

Macon hosts Kirksville in the finals Saturday while Centralia sees Mexico in the third place contest. The Kirksville girls topped Mexico 40-31.

The Mexico boys defeated Macon 80-50. Darren Pappas explained the Bulldogs’ success.

Mexico opened with a 14-3 lead and later entered the half with a 39-30 advantage. Michael White scored 18 for the 13-0 Bulldogs. Isaiah Reams and Jordan Shelton both added 17. Macon head coach Dale Devenport expressed disappointment in the Tigers’ performance.

Junior Maurice Magruder managed 22 points, but three of Macon’s three-year starters combined for just 12 points. 10-5 Macon meets Harrisburg in the third place game Saturday. Mexico faces Kirksville in the championship. Kirksville beat Harrisburg 60-56 in the multipurpose building Wednesday. Hear full postgame interviews with the coaches below.
