Congress is supposed to pass appropriation bills for the next fiscal year by the end of September Republican Congressman Blaine Luetkemeyer is frustrated by the Freedom Caucus wing of his own party wanting a government shutdown October First.
He says that faction operates as if it’s “their way or the highway,” but he expects a continuing resolution will eventually get the government to the end of the calendar year.
Luetkemeyer says a shutdown would hurt his party’s chances in next year’s election.
Luetkemeyer said his party’s leadership would still rather negotiate with the Freedom Caucus instead of moderate Democrats to avoid the appearance of Republicans being unable to govern.
