The Palmyra Lady Panthers punched their ticket to Saturday’s Class 2 state championship game with a 9-8 victory over the Marceline Lady Tigers in Friday’s semifinal contest. As it has been for most of the season, the Lady Panthers latest victory was once again in comeback fashion; but this time, it was grand.

Scott Lunte with the call of Bailey Lovelace’s grand slam on KRES and centralmoinfo.com. The Lady Panthers held onto a 5-1 lead thanks to a four run fifth inning. It started with a two run double from Lovelace, then a two run home run from Jazlin Gottman. Marceline did their damage in the sixth inning by plating seven runs. The Tigers first three batters reached on base. A walk, hit by pitch, and a fielders choice cut the Palmyra lead down to one, and then third baseman Kenzie Stahl put Marceline on top.

The Lady Tigers batted through the order and ended up taking a three run lead after a Palmyra error. Lady Panthers coach Jill Arch was proud of Palmyra’s comeback.

Lovelace finished the semifinal 3 for 4 with seven runs batted in, and two home runs. Arch was asked how Lovelace was so locked in at the plate.

Palmyra improves to 21-8 and will take on Sherwood in the Class 2 title game Saturday. Marceline (is playing/played) in the third place game against East Carter. Coach Todd Lowther reflected on the semifinal loss.
