Longtime Moberly Nurse Discusses Career Following Over 50 Years of Service

Carole Akery of Moberly recently retired following a 50-year career of being a local nurse. During her career, Akery worked a variety of healthcare jobs in hospitals, nursing homes, and a hospice program. Akery says she embraced the daily grind of being a nurse.

One of the more unusual experiences of Akery’s career was a relief trip to Jamaica in 2005 following Hurricane Katrina.

For the final twelve years of her career, Akery worked for the not-for-profit North East Community Action Corporation (NECAC) In-Home Health Service program. Akery says her work for NECAC differed from her previous experience.

Akery took nursing classes at Moberly Area Community College. She became a licensed practical nurse in 1971 and a registered nurse in 1992.
