Local Conservation Agent Provides Mushroom Hunting Tips

Due to its limited growing season, the time to pick morel mushrooms in Missouri has come and gone. Randolph County Conservation Agent Zach Barnes says there are still several other types of edible mushrooms to hunt for.

For every edible mushroom in Missouri there is also a poisonous type. Barnes says it’s important to familiarize yourself with all of Missouri’s different mushrooms.

Barnes adds the poisonous varieties carry many different side effects.

Because many varieties of mushrooms look similar, it is important to positively identify them before cooking. Tips for cooking edible mushrooms can be found with the Missouri Department of Conservation’s guide on their website.
