A line of strong thunderstorms which moved across Big K Country Monday has resulted in parts of southeastern Mendon damaged. Chariton County Emergency Management Director Dan King believes this was caused by a tornado.

According to the National Weather Service’s report, the storms rolled through the Mendon area shortly after 6pm and the brief touchdown took place near the corner of Mike and Vernon Kennedy. King explains what the next steps are in surveying the damage.

No injuries were reported. Significant Weather Advisories were issued for Chariton and Randolph counties at the time, but the weather service had warned there were multiple funnel clouds spotted and a brief tornado couldn’t be ruled out. King says they will survey the damage further Tuesday and if they identify any additional damage, they will notify the National Weather Service who will then likely send a crew out to rate the damage.
