Leroy Bowen
Leroy Bowen, 86, of Frankford, passed away peacefully Saturday, November 16, 2024, at Country View Nursing Facility in Bowling Green.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 23, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. Bibb-Veach Funeral Homes and Crematory in Bowling Green with Pastor Michael Neff officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Zion Cemetery in Bowling Green with military honors. Visitation will be Friday, November 22nd from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
Leroy was born September 15, 1938, in Cyrene, Missouri to Norman Peter and Evelyn (Curry) Bowen. He was united in marriage to Barbara JoAnn Bufford on December 24, 1960, at Rev. Paul Grimes house in Elsberry, Missouri. She preceded him in death on October 21, 2019.
Leroy lived in Frankford and Bowling Green his entire life other than when he was in the Army from 1957 to 1965. He spent time stationed in California and Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. He attended Buckner Holler school and Bowling Green junior high and high school. Leroy had been employed at several places throughout his lifetime; including Stark Bros. Nursery, Valley Steel, C & E Brick Plant, Charles Wood Industries, Astoria, and Louisiana Manufacturing, from where he retired.
Leroy was a member of the Cowboy Church in Bowling Green. He and JoAnn enjoyed their “hobby farm” where they raised cows, pigs, goats, and donkeys. He loved spending time with his kids and grandkids. Leroy also enjoyed spending time with JoAnn and giving her a hard time. He liked going to MeMe’s for coffee and socializing with the guys.
Leroy is survived by children: Dana Foiles (Kerri) of Vandalia, Duane Bowen of Center, Cliff A. L. Bowen (Beth) of Bowling Green, Aaron Bowen (Tammy Waite) of Eolia, Sammy Dean Bowen (Missy) of Hannibal, Daniel Lynn Bowen (Diana) of Hannibal, Gina Kaye English (Pete) of Truth or Consequences, New Mexico, Bobby Scott Bowen of Frankford, and Michael Lynn Bowen (Courtney) of Vandalia; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; brother, Jim Bowen (Sandy) of Bowling Green; sisters, June Watts (Virgil) of Bowling Green, and Mary Ellen Watkins (Jim) of Cape Girardeau, Missouri; along with many nieces, nephews, and extended family.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; and siblings, Marion Bowen, Raymond Bowen, Emma Foster, and Frances Johnson; granddaughter, Michelle Bowen.
Pallbearers will be Dana Foiles, Duane Bowen, Cliff Bowen, Aaron Bowen, Sammy Bowen, Daniel Bowen, and Michael Bowen. Honorary pallbearers will be Brandon Foiles, B.J. Bowen, Laura Jennings, Rebecca Jennings, Tricia Bowen, Donovan Bowen, Zachary Bowen, Yasmine Havens, Shawna Bowen, and Bobby Bowen.
Memorials may be made to Mt. Zion Cemetery.
