The completion of Elanco’s seven-point-six billion dollar purchase of Bayer’s animal health division marks the third time the company and its former parent have acquired an animal health business in the Kansas City metro. CEO Jeff Simmons says the Animal Health Corridor through Kansas and Missouri is a key region for their operations.

Simmons says as part of the merger, executives of Bayer Animal Health that had been based in Shawnee, Kansas will join Elanco’s leadership team.

Elanco spun off from Eli Lilly and Company in 2019, with a focus exclusively on animal health. Before buying Bayer Animal Health, the company established its presence in Kansas City with its purchase of Ivy Animal Health in 2007 and Aratana Therapeutics in 2018.
