La Plata to Visit Green City for Tri-County North Doubleheader

La Plata is set to visit Green City for a late season Tri-County North doubleheader Friday night. Despite both schools competing at last week’s La Plata Tournament, neither the boys or girls varsity teams have faced each other this season.

The La Plata girls come into the matchup holding the top spot in the Tri-County North with a 4-0 record. La Plata features no seniors and has had to battle several injuries and quarantines this season. La Plata girls coach Nathan Simler says his team has done a great job coming together.

Both teams are coming off 0-2 performances in last week’s La Plata Tournament. Green City comes in with a winning record despite the graduation of 3,000 point scorer Brooke Littrell. Green City girls coach Cody Moore says he is thrilled with the way the girls have performed this season.

In the boys matchup, La Plata will be looking to improve on their 2-2 mark in conference play. Due to the winter weather, La Plata has had only one practice this week in preparation for a stretch of three games in three days. La Plata boys coach Greg Buescher says his team will need to be defensively sound against the Gophers run-and-gun style.

Green City is trying to keep pace with Novinger in the Tri-County North standings. The Gophers were defeated by Novinger 58-47 on January 22nd. Green City boys coach Donnie Fields shares his thoughts on matching up with La Plata.

Friday night’s games will be part of Green City’s Homecoming. Pregame coverage of the games will begin at 5:45 pm on KRES 104.7 and centralmoinfo.com. Colin Schowe will have the play-by-play.
