La Plata to Visit Green City for Tri-County North Doubleheader

After last week’s games were postponed due to winter weather La Plata and Green City will try again to play their Tri-County North doubleheader Wednesday night. The La Plata girls come into the matchup holding the top spot in the Tri-County North. La Plata features no seniors and has had to battle several injuries and quarantines this season, forcing them to build up their roster depth. La Plata girls coach Nathan Simler says that depth will come in handy with a busy week of games ahead.

The Green City Lady Gophers will be playing their first game since Thursday when they defeated Linn County 48-37. They come into the contest with a 12-9 record despite the graduation of 3,000 point scorer Brooke Littrell. Green City girls coach Cody Moore says he is thrilled with the way the girls have performed this season.

In the boys matchup, La Plata will be looking to play spoiler on Green City’s pursuit of a Tri-County North Conference title. The Bulldogs are scheduled to play five games in five days this week. La Plata boys coach Greg Buescher says with the congested schedule they’re focusing largely on themselves.

Green City will look to bounceback following a 66-51 loss to Cairo on Saturday in the championship of the La Plata Tournament. The Gophers come into the matchup with an 18-4 record overall, with a 4-1 conference mark. Green City boys coach Donnie Fields shares his thoughts on matching up with La Plata.
