The La Plata Lady Bulldogs will host the Canton Lady Tigers in a Class 1 Sectional softball game. The Lady Bulldogs defeated Brashear 6-0 on Friday to capture their third district title in five years. La Plata comes in with a record of 20-6. Much of the team’s success is due to the performance of pitcher Olivia Coy. La Plata coach Greg Buescher says Coy does it all for his team.

Canton defeated La Plata back in September 12-2 at the Monroe City Tournament. However, Coy didn’t pitch in that game for La Plata. Buescher says defense and timely hitting will be key in getting by the Lady Tigers.

Canton comes into the sectional round with a record of 15-0. Their last loss came in last year’s Class 1 State Championship game to Salisbury. While their unbeaten season includes a comfortable win over La Plata, Canton coach Kristyn Caldwell says she anticipates a much tougher challenge this time around.

In addition to their runner-up finish last year, the Lady Tigers also won the state title in 2017 and reached the state semifinals in both 2014 and 2015. Caldwell says the recent run of success for the Canton program means they have high expectations for this latest postseason run.

Colin Schowe will have the call for all of the action beginning with pregame at 5:45 pm on KRES 104.7 and centralmoinfo.com.
