La Plata to Face Canton in Class 1 Sectional for Third Year in a Row

For the third year in a row, the La Plata Lady Bulldogs will face the Canton Lady Tigers in a Class 1 Sectional softball game Wednesday night. La Plata defeated Canton by one run in each of the previous playoff contests. La Plata coach Sarah Farnsworth says she expects a significant challenge from Canton this season.

Farnsworth is in her first year as head coach of La Plata. She inherited a roster that looks much different from the one that finished in second in Class 1 last season. One of the returners from last season, Claire Coy, is the leading hitter for the Lady Bulldogs with a .567 batting average. With a close game expected against Canton, Farnsworth says it’s crucial to limit mistakes.

La Plata brings an 18-10 record into the Class 1 Sectional. Meanwhile, Canton is coming off a 3-2 win in nine innings over North Shelby to capture their fourth straight district title. Canton coach Kristyn Arens expects her team to come out focused against La Plata.

Canton brings a 23-5 record into the sectional round. Arens says there are a couple of different keys to winning this game.

Pregame coverage of the Class 1 Sectional between Canton and La Plata will begin at 4:45 on KRES 104.7 and Colin Schowe will have the play-by-play.
