The school was founded in 1990. Atwell received the Global Teacher of the Year Award in 2015 for her work with the school. Wiggans describes the teachers’ experiences in Maine.
Students at the Center for Teaching and Learning read an average of 40 books a year. The school also works to develop teaching methods.
