La Plata-Novinger Complete Comebacks, Atlanta Advances at Class 1 District 11 Tournament

Night two of the Class 1 District 11 Tournament featured the girls with a pair of teams making comeback efforts and one team winning big.

The 4 versus 5 matchup delivered another epic finish as the La Plata Lady Bulldogs survived a last second shot by Brashear to secure the 52-49 victory. The Lady Bulldogs found themselves trailing for a majority of the contest. Both teams continued to deliver haymakers in the final quarter.

Steven Findley Jr with the call on Superstation KRES and centralmoinfo.com. A missed one-and-one free throw by La Plata gave Brashear one final inbounds and look from three. Junior Lacey Fisher took the shot but the ball rolled out and the final horn sounded.

Claire Coy scored eight points in the second quarter and finished with 19 while Ashlynn Lewis also produced 19 points. Coach Nathan Simler summarized the comeback effort.

Fisher dropped a team-high 21 points for the Lady Tigers. Coach Emily Powell said her young squad has some work to do to take the next step next season.

Brashear finishes with a 9-18 record. La Plata moves on to face top-seeded North Shelby in the semifinals.

The Atlanta Lady Hornets flexed their muscle against the Bevier Lady Wildcats in a 57-23 win to advance to the second round. The Lady Hornets had nine different players get on the scoring sheet while their defense held Bevier to single digits in all four quarters. Coach Jason White on his team’s complete effort.

It marked the third time this season Bevier has fallen to Atlanta. Coach Pat Cunningham reflected on his team’s season.

Bevier finishes the season 3-22.

Novinger energized the late-night crowd in the final game in a comeback effort against Marion County. The Lady Cats trailed by 14 points at halftime but used a big third quarter from freshman Avery Carter to keep within striking distance.

Novinger shot 14/16 from the line in the final quarter to build towards the 63-54 result. Coach Jason Daniels said his team can benefit from a close quarterfinals game.

Marion County was led by the trio of Aylah Pollard, Riley Holt and Kennedy Hathaway who scored 16, 15 and 12 in respective order. The Lady Mustangs finish the season 4-20. Novinger will face Atlanta in the semifinal.
