La Plata Boys, Canton Girls Claim Class 1 District 11 Championships
The La Plata Bulldogs and Canton Lady Tigers claimed Class 1 District 11 titles on Friday.

La Plata trailed 31-28 at halftime but opened the third quarter on a 10-0 run that proved to be the difference. Tel Wheeler stepped up and scored eight of his 14 points in the fourth quarter. Coach Greg Buescher had words of praise for the senior.
Bret Jennings led the Bulldogs with 20 points. Caden Smith had 20 for Novinger and Connor Robinson put in 23. The Wildcats finish the season 16-9. La Plata moves to 18-9 and faces the winner of Meadville-Brunswick in the sectionals. The district championship is La Plata’s first since 2011.
The Canton Lady Tigers won their first district championship since 2010 in a 64-43 victory over the Marion County Lady Mustangs. Tegan Burbridge led all scorers with 21 and Lauren Frazier had 18. The Lady Tigers led the whole way but Marion County got to within four in the third quarter. Canton coach Danielle Baker was proud of how her team responded.
Marion County finishes the season 10-16 and Canton is now 17-10. The Lady Tigers get the winner of Green City-Meadville in sectionals. Canton is responsible for Green City’s only loss this season.
Both sectional games will take place Tuesday at Salisbury High School.
