La Plata and Gallatin Look Forward To Class 1 State Semifinal Clash

Championship dreams are on the line Friday as the the 23-5 La Plata Lady Dogs take on the 20-4 Gallatin Lady Bulldogs in the Class 1 State Semifinal. The winner will advance to face the winner of Jamestown/Marion C. Early in the state title game on Saturday. La Plata defeated Braymer 13-3 in six innings to secure a spot in the state final four. Coach Wendi Travis says the anticipation is building for her team.
The Lady Dogs were state runner-ups in 2021 after being defeated by Maysville. La Plata features the Tri-County conference MVP in senior catcher Claire Coy, along with Travis as the coach of the year. Six total players on the team received all-conference honors. Travis says her team has to stay consistent in Springfield.
Gallatin has not lost a game since September when Class 2 semifinalist South Harrison defeated the Lady Dogs 8-5. Gallatin coach Penny Gardner analyzes the La Plata side.
Gardner says the offense has to continue to show up for the Lady Bulldogs.
